Destined to be the new gateway to the fascinating SPU sound universe of Ortofon, the SPU#1 is an elegant pickup capsule available in two versions (S with spherical stylus and E with elliptical stylus) that immediately stands out for its unique body made of milled wood and resin that integrates the capsule itself and connects to the readout arm via a universal connector. In terms of engineering, the SPU#1 is a low output (0.18 mV) moving coil (MC) design, which suggests combining it with either a high gain preamp or a dedicated step-up transformer, such as Ortofon's own ST-7.

As far as the readout arm is concerned, it is recommended to work with models of moderate or high mass, with a special preference for the Danish company's TA-110 and TA-210 models. Thanks to its careful design, this exquisite pick-up capsule exhibits a virtually flat frequency response curve across the entire audio frequency range, while its extraordinary tracking ability allows it to explore the groove of any vinyl with authority.
