The SPU Century - part of Ortofon 's Anniversary range of cartridges - raises the bar for technical excellence once again with a series of engineering solutions aimed at reducing unwanted resonances inside the cartridge. These solutions have been made possible thanks to Ortofon 's unique expertise and know-how in the fields of materials science, magnetics, mechanical design and cutting-edge technology, which have made it possible to optimise the performance of the new model.
Thus, the SPU Century incorporates the same magnetic system as the SPU Classic series models, in order to preserve the essence of the original design, as well as the elements used in the construction of the magnetic system. However, both the internal structure and many of the key elements of the SPU Century have been completely redesigned using unique procedures such as a revolutionary custom-made version of Selective Laser Melting (SLM). The SPU Century's use of an aluminium alloy has brought further improvements to the overall stiffness of the structure, as well as to the internal damping of the structure.
The end result is a controlled reduction of the vibrations present in the body of the capsule, which is completed by complex computer-controlled high-precision machining and a Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating. Another essential innovation of this exceptional pick-up capsule is the use of a Nude Shibata diamond readout tip - considered one of the best cuts in existence - mounted on an aluminium cantilever.
