Thorens introduced the original TD124 in 1957 and has been used for decades in countless radio studios around the world. Music lovers also quickly discovered a high-precision turntable for themselves; a dedicated fan base has remained loyal to the TD124 to this day.
The purist design and basic construction of the new TD124DD is based on the original, but the height-adjustable die-cast aluminium chassis now rests on vibration-damping rubber elements. Instead of the original transmission with friction wheel and belt, the new TD124DDD uses a newly developed "High Precision" 12-pole direct drive motor with "Delrin" mirror bearing. This provides powerful torque, allows precise speed control and keeps unwanted vibrations away from the platter. The double coil with mechanical coil brake was replaced by a non-magnetic aluminium coil weighing 3.5 kg with electronic motor brake.
Also new is the TP124 arm. It can be precisely adjusted in all parameters to the capsule of your choice and features an innovative anti-skating solution with a ruby bearing and a patented electric lift arm to facilitate smooth placement and removal of the capsule. The newly developed TP124 is a suspended cardanic arm with Löfgren geometry. A high-precision Japanese ball bearing with special oil is used as the horizontal bearing.
Thorens has paid attention to every detail when developing the new TD124DD to ensure that it meets the highest aspirations in terms of sound performance. A high-quality external power supply guarantees an interference-free power supply. In addition to the single-ended RCA outputs, balanced XLR connectors are also provided, which guarantee optimum signal transmission and thus the best possible sound when connecting the TD124DD to a high-end system with a suitably equipped phono preamp.
