A slightly simplified version of the formidable MC901 with a more conventional chassis geometry and dimensions, the MC451 shares the same design. An absolutely unique concept in that it combines in a single block two amplifiers based on different devices for bi-amping loudspeakers using the most appropriate one for each way and which is embodied in the exclusive Hybrid Drive technology, with an output section based on vacuum tubes and another based on transistors.

Specifically, the MC451 includes a 150 watt continuous tube amplifier (12AX7A and 12AT7 for small signal and KT88 for power amplification) for the mid and treble speakers and a 300 watt continuous transistor amplifier for the woofers, the former using McIntosh 's iconic Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer to ensure full compatibility with 8, 4 and even 2 ohm loudspeakers.

The solid state amplifier, meanwhile, utilises another New York-based signature solution, Autoformer technology, to attack all types of loudspeaker systems with authority. A key element of the MC451 is that the two aforementioned amplifiers work together in a synergistic relationship, with each having been targeted at a particular frequency range.
