A replacement for the award-winning MC2152 Limited Edition 70th Anniversary stereo tube power amplifier, created to celebrate McIntosh's 70th birthday, the MC1502 shares the same technical specifications and timeless design as the legendary MC275 amplifier, which in a sense can be said to be its big brother.
The MC1502 features a total of eight KT88 power tubes, i.e. four per channel, as well as eight small signal tubes, namely two 12AXA and two 12AT7 per channel. The 12AX7s are for the balanced and input amplifiers, while the 12AT7s take care of the voltage and attack amplifiers. Importantly, the KT88s feature McIntosh 's unique Air-Pipe cooling to cool their bases for increased reliability, while the eight signal tubes are mounted in ceramic sockets with gold-plated contacts.
Another key element of the MC1501 is its Unity Coupled Circuit configuration, which allows it to ensure the delivery of its full power output regardless of the impedance of the associated loudspeaker enclosures. The MC1501 also features McIntosh's unique Sentry Monitor fuse-free short-circuit protection system, which disables the output stage before the current exceeds safe operating levels, and then automatically resets itself.
