The Wellfleet is an affordable high-end model integrated into Sumiko 's Rainier “collection”, which is located just below the iconic Amethyst, the brand's current absolute reference in terms of moving magnet pickup cartridges. With a design based on that of the award-winning Moonstone, the Wellfleet improves on the latter with the introduction of a suspension specifically designed to optimize the performance of a 0.3x0.7 mm Nude elliptical reading stylus, while utilizing the generation and the chassis with anti-resonant treatment common to all models in the Rainier range. The Wellfleet reading needle has an extreme polishing that eliminates deformations in its stem and tip. With the new structure conceived by Sumiko for its new moving magnet capsule, the excess mass in the aforementioned stem is eliminated to further reduce that of the reading tip, the result being a faster, more direct and precise response to the movement of the needle on the part of the cantilever (aluminum) and the magnet (alnico). Sumiko 's new pickup capsule is completed with a feature that many fans will appreciate: the flexibility offered by its internal signal generator, which allows owners of the brand's Olympia and Moonstone models to evolve to the Wellfleeet with a simple needle change.
