The SPU Mono GM MkII is Ortofon 's answer to enthusiasts of monophonic recordings on vinyl records with microgrooves (marketed in the 1950s) who are looking for a very high quality transduction system with a high enough output level to avoid the use of dedicated phono preamps or transformers.
A number of modifications to the design of the signal generation system incorporated in the SPU Mono CG 25 Di mkII allow the SPU Mono GM mkII to deliver a 3 mV output voltage, making it compatible with virtually any moving-magnet phono capsule phono section in integrated amplifiers and preamplifiers.
Furthermore, the use of the unique monophonic signal pick-up and transduction scheme developed by Ortofon means that the SPU Mono GM mkII can deliver the same signal on either of its two pairs of connectors, thus facilitating the reproduction of those signals through any traditional stereo equipment.
