The MA12000 is a hybrid design that combines a vacuum tube-based preamp section (two 12AX7A per channel) with power amplification circuitry equipped with McIntosh 's exclusive Autoformer technology, which ensures that its 350 continuous watts per channel are delivered in its entirety whether the impedance of the associated speakers is 8, 4 or 2 ohms.

In the area of analog connectivity, the most opulent of McIntosh 's stereo integrated amplifiers includes a total of 10 inputs divided into 2 balanced line, 6 unbalanced line, 1 phono for moving magnet (MM) capsules and 1 phono for moving coil (MC) capsules, to which outputs must be added in balanced and unbalanced formats.

When it comes to digital connectivity, the MA12000 includes as standard McIntosh 's advanced DA2 module, which combines six digital inputs (2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB and 1 MCT) with one HDMI-compatible ARC (Return Channel).
