A beautiful retro look, reminiscent of such legendary McIntosh achievements as the MC275 tube power amplifier, is the calling card of the MCD85, a versatile digital stereo source that will satisfy the most demanding listeners thanks to an exquisite combination of technology and build quality that draws on the unique expertise of McIntosh in exceptional audio.
Compatible with CD's, SACD's, data DVD's and digital files stored on USB sticks, the MCD85 incorporates sophisticated digital circuitry featuring an audiophile-grade D/A conversion chip with 32-bit technology, whose 8 channels have been configured in the unique Quad Balanced architecture to maximise parameters such as frequency response curve linearity, signal-to-noise ratio, channel separation and dynamic range while minimising distortion.
The MCD85 can also play digital files encoded in popular formats such as AAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD (up to DSD256), PCM up to 384 kHz, FLAC, MP3, WAV and WMA. In terms of connectivity, the MCD85 includes two coaxial digital inputs and two optical digital inputs, a front USB input and fixed-level analogue outputs in both balanced and unbalanced modes.
Another key element of this refined digital stereo source is its transport mechanics, featuring the use of a high-precision die-cast aluminium platter which, in combination with an advanced digital servo control, ensures extremely fast and quiet operation. In addition, the data contained on the disc is read at twice the normal speed in order to improve data tracking and error correction.
The MCD85 comes complete with one of the US firm's iconic treated glass front panels and, as is the US firm's standard, a construction of the highest standard.
