When a sufficient depth of false ceiling is not available, the Dali Phantom K-60 LP in-ceiling loudspeaker is the solution.

The aim in creating the K-60 LP is to facilitate installations with a high quality in-ceiling loudspeaker model in a slim design that allows maximum installation flexibility. DALI has achieved this by providing housing depths of only 36 mm, which is less than any recessed light fixture on the market.

When the physical depth needs to be restricted, a new architecture needs to be designed, and that is what we have done with the K-60 LP. A completely new development by DALI engineers inspired by the technology already used in the smaller drivers developed for the award-winning DALI KATCH G2 portable loudspeaker.

The curved outer region and a central domed region provide structural rigidity equivalent to that of a conventional diaphragm, yet also offer a greatly reduced overall depth.

The overall result of these architectural changes is a 150 mm (6-inch) mid/bass driver with a depth that is less than half the conventional size used in most flush-mount loudspeakers, yet its acoustic performance in terms of frequency response, distortion, compression is astonishing.

The selection of the best aluminium for the diaphragm was necessary to achieve the required stiffness and rigidity, considering the low-profile driver architecture, so it incorporates seven localised stiffening ribs to provide increased rigidity.

While the K-60 LP's stunning bass/midrange driver is its most notable technical highlight, its smooth 25mm dome tweeter is no less remarkable. It is derived directly from those used in DALI hi-fi models and offers a much higher quality than is normally found in similar installation loudspeakers. In particular, and highly unusual for an in-wall and in-ceiling speaker, the tweeter is installed with a damped rear enclosure that serves to lower the fundamental resonance of the dome. The lower resonance allows the tweeter to operate lower in the audio band and integrate more effectively with the bass/midrange driver at a relatively low crossover frequency of 2 kHz. The tweeter's magnet system, again unusual in flush-mount loudspeakers, is a neodymium-iron-boron element designed with a central hole to provide an air passage to link the dome to its rear housing. NeFeB magnets are more expensive than the traditional ceramic alternative, yet their low weight and compact size bring significant packaging benefits for a speaker like the K-60 LP. The tweeter dome is surrounded by a short-curved waveguide that provides dispersion control and radiation impedance matching.

In addition to its wide dispersion, the K-60 LP incorporates
high-frequency Normal and High+ EQ options; the High+ option is useful for compensating for very off-axis listening and ensures optimum dispersion in any listening situation.

The K-60 LP is equipped with a thermal overload protection system so that if it is subjected to too much volume over a prolonged period of time, it will stop playing to protect itself, recovering its operation after a short time and being able to operate for many more hours if the volume is reduced slightly. DALi in-ceiling loudspeakers are built to last for many years.

Installation of the K-60 LP is extremely simple. It only requires a cut-out in the ceiling or wall, using the template provided. Plug the cables into their push-on connectors and pay attention to the compass-style direction indicators drawn on the bezel of the K-60 LP to help you align your sound radiation axis to the listening point. Once in place, a K-60 LP is secured via four clamps that will be attached to the plasterboard as we screw its four fixing points from the outside. Once installed and tested, simply fit the stylish white magnetic grille in place with the option of a black grille, if purchased separately, and the K-60 LP is fully compatible with the same grille as the Phantom E-60 if preferred.

Its magnetic front grille in satin white spray paintable in any colour allows it to be easily integrated into any decorated environment.
