EAT used the Forte-S turntable as the basis for the new and improved Fortissimo-S. Eschewing the sleek designs of some of its competitors, the Fortissimo-S takes the mass-loaded route without straying down the path followed by some manufacturers where mass equals hugely ugly. The newly designed platter has twelve peripheral brass inserts and a central brass hub to increase platter weight (15kg), rotational inertia and speed stability.
The oversized platter (360mm diameter) is a two-part construction incorporating hard and soft alloys and sorbotane damping to inhibit resonance, while opposing neodymium magnets allow users to adjust the bearing load, balancing the noise of the main bearing with the vertical. Stability and mechanical grounding. The bearing has an inverted design, mounted in a massive chrome alloy block designed to provide stability and energy dissipation.
The shaft surface is treated with a low-friction Movic coating, a NASA-developed graphene-based material that reduces friction levels by a factor of six over the previous version. The shaft itself is topped with a ceramic ball.
The external power supply for the belt drive motor is elegantly integrated with the main unit, eliminating that "all belts and braces" look, the belt itself is made of silicone yarn to reduce rotational variation and "wobble".
We have reduced the size of the huge tray from 40cm to 36cm and its weight from 20kg to 15kg. These dimensions are still considerable compared to the standard 30cm. This allows the kinetic energy of the moving plate to be kept within the turntable, the law being that doubling the diameter allows for four times better performance
It has been upgraded with 12 brass inserts and a top brass insert under the vinyl top plate to add additional weight and further stabilise the turntable for better speed stability. It is made up of two parts. The first part uses a soft alloy, the second part uses a harder alloy. This helps to reduce energy loss. The first part also includes neodymium magnets. The tray weighs more than 20 kg. The diameter of the tray is 360 mm (not the usual 300 mm). This means that for the same weight, more kinetic energy is obtained. The platter also incorporates sorbotane damping to avoid resonances.
It is not standard but inverted with a large polished shaft. The new plate, with its enormous mass, generates more kinetic energy, which must be better absorbed. That's why we designed a new bearing block with a chrome alloy that can withstand more energy and damp the entire system more effectively. In addition, the bearing axle has a new "Movic" coating with the lowest possible coefficient of friction (6 times less than previous axle versions). This is the same coating used by NASA for satellite bearings
Magnificent reverse bearing construction with a ceramic ball on Teflon top faces. The pressure on the ceramic ball is reduced by two huge neodymium magnets that hold the dish and absorb most of the load from the huge dish.
A ceramic ball is used, which is very hard and inert. This, combined with a Teflon plate that serves as a supporting mirror, makes a good damping device. The precise satin-finished surface of the Teflon produces a perfectly smooth movement without any noise. The board is magnetically suspended by neodymium magnets. By increasing the distance between the bearing and the cell, the small neodymium magnets eliminate the magnetic influence on the cell. Thanks to the magnets we can move the large mass of the platter without exerting too much pressure on the bearing, which prevents noise (a heavily loaded platter generally causes high noise levels). The bearing pressure is adjustable. There are different philosophies regarding bearing pressure. With the Fortissimo S turntable you can adjust it according to your preferences and tastes.
The big brother Fortissimo has integrated two motors in a separate chassis which requires its imposing width of 70 cm. EAT Fortissimo S is "only" 55 cm wide for a one-piece construction. It also has two AC motors but arranged symmetrically on the right side next to the platter, so it does not require two belts of different lengths as in the Fortissimo. The control panel is also simpler with 3 main keys: 33,3, 45 and on/off button.
They have huge magnetic feet, which act as a subframe. Forte S uses four magnetic feet with adjustable height. This allows for a particularly low resonance frequency and perfectly unloads the entire system. Fortissimo and Fortissimo S suffer from none of the usual distortions found in turntables.
