The NEAR IG6 s2 replaces the original IG6 model and features the Generation 2 metal diaphragm technology cone that is lighter and stiffer than the original MDT cone. The result is a wideband sensitivity increase of 3dB and more than 4dB in the midrange, making the IG6 s2 easier for amplifiers to drive and sound better with more "open" midrange presence and greater vocal presence. The IG6 S2 has an “omnidirectional” design that radiates sound in a 360-degree pattern for more uniform coverage and better sound quality for each listener.

The grilles, the same color as the cabinet, are heavy-gauge, rust-resistant powder-coated stainless steel with rectangular perforations that prevent water from clogging the holes and blocking high frequencies.
The upward-facing driver array is protected from moisture, debris, and critter ingress with a special hydrophobic fabric that lets sound out but keeps water out. The cabinet is colored linear low-density polyethylene that expels moisture, dirt and chemicals. UV-inhibiting pigments are evenly embedded throughout the material so the sun won't fade its color or yellow it.
