Variant of the SPU Classic GM mkII equipped with an elliptical Nude stylus designed by Ortofon , the SPU Classic GM E mkII is a moving coil pickup cartridge equipped with the characteristic SPU design that allows access to the special sonic magic of this very veteran transducer concept through a moderate price. It should be said about the SPU that when it was released in 1958 it offered a type of sound superior to that of any other pickup capsule on the market for the simple reason that its design was far above that of its competitors. Even today, more than half a century later, the SPU continues to exhibit a sound that definitely has its own personality and continues to enjoy great popularity among audio purists who have a special appreciation for "vintage" components.
From a technical point of view, the SPU Classic E mkII is based on an evolved version of the two key innovations that the SPU provided at the time: a signal generating system composed of two low impedance coils and the use, in the windings of said coils, made of extremely fine copper conductors, to which is added the arrangement of said coils in such a way that the two walls of the microgroove of a stereophonic record generate two discrete signals with a maximum channel separation. Thanks to this, the SPU Classic GM E mkII offers what was called " Ortofon sound" at the time, characterized by rich bass and transparent treble, to which are added a series of qualities that are difficult to define, but which are easy to appreciate once they are perceived. A genuine classic in audio history.
